The 19th of Tevet is the yahrtzeit
(anniversary of the passing) of American Jewish philanthropist Judah Touro
(1775-1854). Passing of R. Aryeh
Leib Heller, Author of Ketzot Hachoshen (1812) R. Aryeh Leib Heller was the rabbi of the
city of Stryi, in what is now Western Ukraine. His works—Ketzot Hachoshen, Avnei
Milu’im, and Shav Shemateta—are known for their clear,
logical analysis of Talmudic texts and ideas, and are staples that are
studied in yeshivas throughout the world. Chumash Parshat Shemot, 5th Portion (Exodus 3:16-4:17) Psalms Tanya Likutei Amarim, middle of Chapter 13 Rambam 3 Chapters, 1 Chapter, Sefer Hamitzvot Hayom Yom Daily Thought Urgent Yearning At the base of our Torah and our Jewish
psyche lies an incessant urgency. Not just a sense that things are not the
way they should be, but a relentless striving to heal it all this very
moment. Relentless, because it refuses to decay with
time or to fade with disappointment. In the morning, we make our plea as
though unable to tolerate another moment. And as evening comes, we demand
again as though morning never passed. We live on the edge of eternity. May we
arrive now. |
